Blankety blankin storms...

For the past 3 days we have been having moderate thunderstorms in the DFW area. The power has flickered at least 8 times. And doesn't it figure... I am always in the middle of typing or something.

Argh. We get storms like that up here. Even in a town of 20K our power system is ramshackle at best. When I start seeing flashes, I usually unplug just about everything because I know sooner or later the power will drop or spike.

Yep it's been raining like crazy here too. Yesterday I was down by korgul's house and it was raining so hard I almost had to pull off the road you couldn't see a thing.

UPS's can be had for a song these days. They keep the machine running for the short outages and protect against spikes. I highly recommend one.

hmm speaking of a UPS.. how big of a UPS should somebody get for a PC?
I'm in the midst of putting one together witha 450W PSU but no idea how big of a UPS to get (I hate electricity ).. I don't have to get a 450W UPS do I?? those things are a bit $$$$ (plus monitor if possible but not required)

Yep we've had some really cool T-Storms over heretoo
NO power loss so far!

(n/m a 'song' is still out of my price range )

Hey vass --

Whattya' mean "(n/m a 'song' is still out of my price range ) for a 450VA??? I just paid $9.94 for an Energizer, after MIR at Staples! (I'm using it on my PII266MHz server with no monitor!)

Now, that I have that off my chest, I'm running a CyberPower 800VA on my Athlon 800. It gives me around 14 minutes if all power goes off when my 19" MAG is attached, 23 minutes if it isn't.

And you're telling me that CyberPower 800 costs 9 bucks?

No, the Energizer 450VA cost $9.94 after MIR!

The CyberPower 800VA cost $160 a couple years back when I bought it!

BTW, don't forget that it has a 3 year warranty and just died earlier this year. They sent me a brand new one as a replacement.
