WinMe is crap? Kind of a broad generalization there isn't it? For example, I have a dedicated file/gateway server, a graphics workstation, a multimedia workstation, a gaming rig, and a notebook running WinMe with absolutely no problems to date. Been using Me since the early beta releases.....

WinME is kind of an "orphan" OS but I loaded it on my notebook and it found all the hardware bada-bing, bada-boom and has been a champ for me.
Robin, I know what you're going through. I built a system for my kid sister that was a pretty hot machine for its time and had a mothrboard in it that, for some silly reason, I had a great sentimental attachment to. By the time I got it happy, stable and fast, I hated to give it up. So I did box it up until it was time to deliver it. She's still insanely happy with it, it's still rockin' and that's good enough for me.

My experience with WinMe probably wouldn't help this situation, since you don't have any problems with it.
First, open the flaps on the box
Then put computer in it
Then pack it tightly with peanuts
Then put so much effort into hiding it that you won't feel like taking the effort to get it out until it's time to give it away.
My boss went through the same withdrawals last year |

Ok Rob, maybe I was being to general, but I have had nothing but headaches with ME, as many others in this forum have also.
XP is so much more stable, it's like apples and oranges. Even if there was no XP, I would much prefer Win98 SE over ME anyday of the week. Just my opinion OK?

Tell ya what...
UNTWEAK IT
Unpersonalize it.
Make it REAAAALLLY SLOW
Make it horribly annoying to even look at
BRIGHT NEON GREEEN background!!!
Put LOADS of useless shortcuts to apps you'll never use on the desktops!!!
voila instant compaq machine
(minus the green background of course lol)

hehe Robin, I feel your pain I've been through the same anguish building comps better than my own for customers.. and having to ship it to them .. it's hard to doooooo.
I agree with Emc2 - the sooner you pack that puppy up and ship it off, the sooner it will be out-of-sight, out-of mind. You can do it!
Good luck.
Or..... maybe your niece would like something else lol, jk
