WMDs: For your reading convenience...

...a compilation of Bush Administration statements, from February 2000 to the present.

In my opinion it is quite evident that we are now witnessing the deconstruction of the whole case for ‘the war on Iraq’.
  • The Blair government has admitted that it was a mistake to publish the flagrantly faked ‘intelligence’ dossier.
  • Rumsfeld says Iraq may have destroyed it’s arsenal prior to the war but “he doesn’t have the answers”
  • The NY Times reports that the administration is no longer sure whether the 2 trailers in Iraq were used for the creation of WMD’s since they lacked crucial hardware.
  • The pentagon has repeatedly whined and complained about false information from Ahmad Chalabi (granted he is an actor) concerning Iraq’s arsenal and abilities (as if they relied on one man only, but they need someone to blame now it seems).

But then again WMD’S were never the main reason for this war, so this is all just a show to keep people preoccupied with something trivial, while the important questions go un-asked.

RADAR,

I addressed them in Theo's other thread about WMD's being the rational for war.

I don't think we need to find the WMD to validate this war. The rational for it was to remove a terrorist dictator from power who has commited genocide. The same was true when Clinton went after old Milo in Serbia. Guess they still haven't found WMD in Serbia, huh?

Actually Kosovo was to stop the genocide of tens of thousands of Kosovar Albanians. We were told of the mass graves that would rival that of nazi Germany. Looks like we stopped Slobo in time because we only found a few thousand bodies. Unfortunately we have already dug up vastly more thousands of bodies from Saddam's mass murder due to our delay.

One can't retroactively find a new reason for war when the argument first given is discredited. The same neoconservatives that advocated marching on Iraq on moral grounds looked a blind eye to state sponsored murders in Central America in the 1980's and in Africa today. There is also no credable al Qaeda link.

How would this play with the American people?

"Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam has two tractor trailers that conceivably be used to produce weapons of mass destruction." - Dick Cheney

"If Iraq had disarmed itself, gotten rid of its two tractor trailers, we would not be facing the crisis that we now have before us . . . But the suggestion that we are doing this because we want to go to every country in the Middle East and rearrange all of its pieces is not correct." - Colin Powell

"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal tractor trailers ever devised." - George W. Bush

So it's ok to hide mobile weapons labs from the inspectors? They are just the tip of the iceburg. We did dilly dally too long; the UN's stalling bought time for Saddam to hide stuff well or ship it to Syria or some other hiding place. Those possibilites shouldn't be ruled out so quickly.
