Fry's is good for retail shopping but prices can be much higher than online stores. I don't know how the prices at Outpost.com their web site match in store prices.

Atacom.com has reasonable prices. I've only ordered online and had products shipped, but they have a pick up @5:00pm option.

Other Bay Area retail stores with web presense are:

www.PixelUSA.com
www.centralcomputer.com

I've purchased from Central (positive experience) but not PixelUSA.

I'd second the Central Computers. I've only dealt with them at their "main" location in Santa Clara and before that in their small store when they first started down the street from Kaiser Hospital. You have the advantage of stores now in 3 locations if you aren't in Silicon Valley but the outlying areas.

Anyone who thinks that Fry's has first quality memory is probably deceiving themselves. I have however bought CF memory from them that was standard branded top of the line though not advertised as such and I've used their generic low price memory without troubles. Hey many of the floor clerks even speak and understand English nowadays which is a big improvement. Fry's main strong point is that they have a large selection. Prices are most often cheaper at Central for the identical item and their techs build systems within view and you can ask for advice and know you are getting good advice.

I bought a complete system from Pixel several years ago in the days of the P133 and was happy. A technician who was a close friend, worked for me, and was a native Vietnamese speaker dealt with them a lot and spoke highly of them. He also agreed he'd talk with them - in Vietnamese - (none of the then prevalent -- understand English fine when you buy but don't understand when you have a problem that they should fix) if I had any problems.

Pixel has moved several times since then and I've not heard anything bad about them and I just recently donated the old Pixel 133 machine to charity, still working fine.
