Empty Nest
/ranting ie worying ie fretting/
How have y'all dealt with being in the empty nest situation?
It's only been just over a day. He's only 15. It's only 3 weeks. I know everything is OK.
I know that this is only a prelude to the 'real' empty nester situation for me, but I know that many here have probably had to deal with this.
My little one is trying to advance a bit in math and is taking a mini course in geometry hopefully to test out and get into Alg2 next year (soph).
He is 6 hrs away. Did this last year. Major fretting then too.....
I think it is good that I let him go and have an incredible experience. I just love him too much and I find myself checking his schedule, wondering how he's doing, how things are going with his 5 roommates.... Is the TA helpful? Is he laughing alot, is he learning alot? How did the pretest go? What is going on with his class, how many kids, hows the prof, etc.,etc.....(Is he eating too much of those wasteful carb stuff I left him with)
Now I am desperately trying NOT to call him on the "hallway" phone. I know he will call tomorrow or the next day... Arrrhhh...
I have a real bad case of pursestrings right now. It is only 2 weekends that he's gone, but so far it's too long.......
No room for rent signs up here!
Seriously, I will be dealing with this if he goes to the special school for his JR/SR year.... That's 2 years earlier than college...
*************************************************
So please, advice and comments welcome....
......what's up with this empty nest thing..... I'd love to hear both sides.......
THX in advance to my TIMO frens......

You can't call him you would embarrass him!
Let go Sweet, give your son a chance to soar, without the weight of his mother. Give him a chance to make you proud and prove his maturity without your input
As for you, give yourself a little treat and go have some fun!
been there I know. | |

Thanks Surreal. I know your words are right and true. It's getting late and I'll try to finish the Stanley cup, then pop on my 'sleeping' movie and then it'll be another day.....
really thanks for the words of advice... so hard to let go....

Hi Pickel,
OHHH, thank you!!!! Sometimes I'd really like someone to take care of me for just a very short time so I could have all of my worries fade away. I really appreciate the sentiment.....
(funny, we were thinking of returing thru Jackson for the home trip, but would have added an hour or so.)
oh well, Ducks didn't make it. Congrats to NJ. (I'm a wing fan myself so the season was over a while ago, still the finals are always fun!)

Just think, it could be worse: Try going through what my mom went through...not me going to school where I could call everyday, recieve care packages, etc....but the Army where I got to talk to them only four or five times in over 2 months time (at 2-3 min each time)...after that, we had passes on weekends where I could (finally) call them for a period of time. It'll be tough, I know, I've seen what you're living through my mom. Hang in there

See its not so bad Sweet
