ATTN: Elementary teachers and thier spouses.

Howdy!

I am needing some help here, I have emailed a few people that I know that are either teachers themselves or thier spouse is.

I have volunteered over the summer to teach some elementary math to my bf's sisters kid. He is struggling with math and they can't afford to send him to summer school at this time, so I elected to do it.

My problem is access to books. I need two books, One 2nd grade level math book and one 3rd grade level math book.

I am trying to find out what school districts do with thier discarded books and hopefully be able to obtain a copy of each the 2nd and 3rd grade math levels.

So im asking the same question here as I have to certain people in private.

Do you know where i can obtain some used discarded math books. perhaps through your school you work at? I can pay for any book fees if thier are any and also shipping.

Please let me know if you can help me out here. Thanks I really appreicated it. I am hoping to start teaching him as early as next week. I'll be doing some evaluation with him next week to see where his strentghs and weeknesses are so I can determine the learning sytle he has.

thank you and I appareicate any time and effort to you in finding out any info of where to get the books. Thanks.

Karin

Hi Neostar. How about obtaining the ISBN# and ordering a copy of the book from the national library through your local public library? This is just a thought and may be difficult cuz the peeps at the public libraries don't know that they can do this for you.

Also, to help better, we would need to know the title/authors/etc of the books as the curicculum of school districts differ so much....

....ps.... good deal, good for you for helping.....and good luck!

I'll try to answer this 2 ways.
(1- I knew a person who did this with an out of publication book)
2 - every book published officially has an ISBN (as ya know) and the government must have a copy of this book (or 2) for some reason...and if you ask at a public library, you should be able to order to take out as a library book (or in your library as a 'reference' type book) but either way, you have your hands on it and can most probably with legimate reasons for education, copy the excerpts or pages you need or keep the book for an extended period of time....

It may be easier calling your board of education and requesting the info, but, it seems that sometimes they love throwing red tape at ya for something like this.

Wish I could help more....

ps have ya thought about some of the additional math educational cd's out there, like at office depot? Those are interactive and kids just love to play on the 'forbidden' computer and have fun with math stuff....

I have a couple math-type cd 'games', not sure what age-appropriate they are.... will check further.... If I send em to ya, will ya send em back when ur done? (Is this ok w/ rules here, dunno).....
