Systems My cat is sick...

Being out in the country we put our cats out for the night and then let them go in and out of the house during the day. Well a couple days ago we had a good rain...and since then Neko has been sneezing. A lot.

When it didn't stop by the next day...we took him to the vet. The vet told us that he has a sinus infection. Now...this is rather ironic since I have allergies that bother me quite a bit. Just seems fitting that my cat is bothered by a similar problem. Anyways...the vet said he had a temp of 107. For humans...well that's pretty much fatal but I don't how it is for cats. Is that really high? Or just a slight temp?

Neko got a shot from the vet and some medicine that we have to give him 2 times a day. He's not supposed to go outside especially if the weather is bad. I always thoughts cats looked so cute when they sneezed...but Neko acts just like I do when my allergies are really bothering me. He sneezes...over and over and over and over. He's also started hanging his mouth open a little bit to breathe...the vet said his sinuses are blocked up and he can't breathe through his nose.

His normal playfullness has now changed to lethargy. The doctor said that if he doesn't eat...that we're to bring him back in on Monday. Otherwise the vet will take a look at him next Friday. For right now he's still eating...it's just that you can really tell that he isn't feeling good. I know he'll get over this and go back to his normal self...but it still pains me to see him so miserable.

No particular reason why I'm posting this to you guys...guess I'm just looking for a sympathetic ear or two.

Sorry to hear about your kitty Gouki. I hope he's fine without another trip to the vet.
I have never been in favor of letting the cats out at night. If you keep them in and only let them out in the day they are much safter.

Cats are more comfortable with a warm bed to sleep on. Better keep him warm!

Cats normal body temperature in naturally a bit higher than humans. You can google around, but no, 107 isn't fatal for a cat. Just sick

Whenever I was growing up that was how we always did it...from the time they were kittens. We'd keep em inside for a little while til they got used to their surroundings and then let them stay out at night.

Whenever I lived in town I always kept Neko inside...all the time. Last thing I wanted was for him to run out in the street and get hit by a car. It took him a little while to get adjusted to living in the country...and it took us a while before we realized that he wasn't going to run off. He just likes to explore....everywhere. In the end though...it's the best for him. He loves being able to stay outside. And I think he's trying to make up for lost time...being kept inside all the time before. Since we started letting him stay out at night...we've had at least one "present" on the front porch almost every morning.

Anyways...this is the first time in my almost 30 years that I've seen one of my cats have a sinus infection or get sick from being outside when it rained. Can't explain why this never happened to the other cats...and I don't really know why Neko was more succeptible.

I'm definitely realizing just how attached I get to my pets...

Trust me Gouki, I am very attached our 7 cats, I know how you feel. 107 is a bit high, but not too terrible. a cats temp should be around 102.

try a small amount of moist food (avoid the tuna for humans, it can be fatal to them.) Also, try a bit of catnip near by to tempt him.

I hope this helps.

My cat Boris got sick once. I found her in the closet, I swear I could tell she had a fever by touching her, she looked zoned out like she was on acid.
I took her to the vet and we got her infection that caused the temp all healed, but she still wouldn't eat. I finally tried to force some canned food on her. Ever seen a cat spit? I'm talking spray the kitchen walls spitting.
Well I took her to the vet again cause I was getting worried it had been a while like a week or so since she had eaten. The Vet gave her valium. I asked why and he said I don't know why but sometimes they will eat when they are on it.. She did. It worked and she kept eating once she started again and all was well. I'm not sure why I just told this story. Boris was a great cat. I had her about 17 years.
I got her used at the humane society. She was a year or two when I got her.

The vet suggested warm milk, chicken broth or beef broth if it seemed like he wasn't eating. Gave him some chicken broth earlier this evening and he just went to town on it....cleaned the dish so good I didn't even have to wash it! J/K!

After that he curled up and went back to sleep...

Surreal, wow 17 years is quite a long time for a cat...I think the oldest cat I ever had got to be 15.

now parrots, man I know of one that has been alive for over 70 yrs.
