personal or business repair?
so i started my own little repair company. made a few hundred bucks already. but i would like to be able to tap into the hundreds of people that live is complexes around me. in a previous thread i asked about good ways to do this. some ideas were flyers with pull of tabs on it. my question is this...
which do you think would get a better response...
1. having Foot Computers on it and using 'we' as opposed to I (coming off as a business)
or
2. Coming off as a local guy with my name and number on it?
any other ideas or recommendations?

The "local guy" thing would work. As far as the "we" vs "I"? I've seen it both ways. My boss does network consulting on the side and his website always refers to "we", even though he works alone. The "we" part may make it look like you have a more established business, but you may have to answer some embarrassing questions about your "partners".
Do you have a website?

You should be careful about using your student webspace for commercial purposes. The school will probably not like that.
Do you have cable or dsl? You could host it yourself. And domain registration is only $35/year.
YGPM, btw.

Go ahead and use "we" if you want. You can always say Uncle Sam is your partner. Good to generate some laughs and common ground with your caller!
If you do software training, I used the line once: "Does your boss expect you to be as good as your resume says you are?" Call blah, blah..., I can help! Worked pretty good. Had a few people with job specfic problems, most were fairly straight foreward.

ok i registered www.footcomputers.com i do run my own server already at home. i dont like that idea for this though, but maybe you are right. i run it on my main rig, so maybe i should put up a little dork pc and have that run my site. that way it is always on, which was my main reason for not doing it.
i work for the school..they would never know and if they did find out, i would be the one incharge of busting myself

SUggestion: Use "we" on the business card. Try to sound like an upright business, you never know just who is going to see your business card.
Go local, in a happy sort of way. THe neighborhood here knows me as that "fix-it guy". Not a bad thing, and it helps sometimes.
Wouldn't hurt if one of the neighbors just happened to need tech help at work and thought of you...
