Am I being unreasonable?
Once again a neighbor of mine decided to start mowing his lawn at 5:45 this mornng. He has a really loud riding mower that creates a racket no one can sleep through. I asked him why he was mowing his lawn so early and he says, "Hey, buddy, I've got things to do." When I refered to him as a certain bodily orifice, he gets mad and tells me to take my language elsewhere and continues mowing his lawn. I probably shouldn't have blown up at him, but blatant arrogance really tees me off. This bozo lives next the guy that blasts his stereo until 1 or 2 in the morning, so when they coordinate, you only get 3 or 4 hours of sleep.
Is it unreasonable to expect peace and quiet between say 10PM and 8AM? At least on weekends?

Check on noise ordinances and then call the cops.
(on both sets of neighbors if you have asked both of them to keep it quite after 10pm and until 7am- that's usually the quite times)
And no, you shouldn't have cussed at him.

Unfortunately I live in Anarchy County, Illinois where there are no noise ordinances. That's the problem with less government, people don't know right from wrong. Laws aren't there for intelligent, considerate people. Laws are there to keep the morons like this guy in line.
You're right, though, I shouldn't have blown up at him. That was probably counter-productive. But I'm not a very nice person when someone wakes me up at 5:45 for no good reason. Especially when it's the third time in as many weekends.

Well there must be something for disturbing the peace.
I'd just start calling the cops.

Check the state consolidated laws for towns with a population of your size. Because even if a township or county hasn't yet defined such laws it residents are still held to state laws. County's and townships cannot run rogue of state laws and must adhere to the minimal set down by the state.
Believe it or not where I live there was no zoning restriction done by the county or towns untill the late 60's. So many landlords and their attorneys went under the assumption that they were grandfathered in, and could operate multiple residences in any slipshod manner they chose to only to later find out through litigation with savy tenants that there are all sorts of zoning and building laws set forth by the state that take over where the towns and counties had failed.

I have called the cops. They told me there's nothing they can do because there's no noise ordinance and a person making noise on his/her own property is NOT considered Disturbing the Peace. I said to the cop, "So that means he (the stereo guy) can move his speakers out on the porch and blare them all night and there's nothing you can do?" And the cop says, "That's right."
So where does that leave me? I guarantee you any physical action I take will be illegal. Therein lies the problem. When there's no legal recourse to take against a moron like this, you're stuck.

The police you called was that the city and county police? Or was it the state police? maybe a call to the state police is in effective, or perhaps you can find a savy attorney that knows that state laws can override city/county ordinances?

hook up some spot lights on your house to beam into his windows starting at 10pm . if you can make them move do that so it moves around any shades he has . is he want to be a gland let him know 2 can play that game . if you have a city counsel you might want to contact them .

Go online and check the states data base and you'll find the laws that apply to your situation. Print them out so you can quote the exact law down to the sub-section and paragraph. Then when the state police show up explain that you want the laws enforced as written. If they fail to carry out the job as law enforcement officials ask to speak to their watch seargent.

| There's your answer right there..
Go down and rent some PA equipment and have a good time..
At 3:00 in the morning..
Just be sure to get some speed metal or gangsta rap CDs to let him enjoy..
Or, do you have a chainsaw? Stand by his house and fire it up and hold it wide open till it runs out of gas.
Why?
Because you've got things to do!
