Screw that! You have to have a lot of special training for that...I can barely stand at attention w/o moving for 5 min, let alone all day...

That would be such a horrible job. Not only do you have to stand there and do nothing, but you have to do it with people taking your picture and trying to bother you.

Hey you guys!!!

It's not that bad!!!

The worst is wearing the Colonial uniforms! Even the summer uniforms have wool in them and that wig is a "b***h"! (Color Guard and Drum and Fife Corp.)

It's not that hard to ignore the people around you. Actually, it's very easy. (Think about how a lot of ya' ignore me! ) The hardest part is learning to keep from passing out in the heat after standing at attention for extended periods of time. Well, I guess earning the honor of "Honor Guard" is pretty tough as well. Oh, and I forgot the Drill Team is a bear as well!

To me, the hardest part was the "Funeral Detail", I got to the point that I started to choke up real bad at the playing of "Taps". (I still have a hard time when I hear it! )

Remember, the members of the 3d Inf. Regt. "The Old Guard" have to maintain their combat readiness as well as their equipment and extra duties in D.C.

I still proudly carry two (2) of the 3d Inf. Regt. coins and have both the plastic and the leather buff straps that I wore. I still laugh about winning the "Chase Training Trophy" back in '82. I still miss the closeness that we developed as members of the "Old Guard".

Wart, let me know if ya' want me to contact the Regt. and get ya' added for consideration to any of the details. I can always drop "The Old Guard Assn" president an e-mail and drop yer' name. Also, if ya' go over to the museum, you'll find me listed under Co. B, 3d Bn. (FT Snelling, USAR).
