VW bug seeing it's final days
The bug is being retired
Yup, you read it right. The Beloved VW bug will be no more. Herbie will not ride again

This means also that parts will go up
A sad day, this is possibly the only car that will ever be produced for anything close to 70 years.

You got that right. Sad thing is, they were getting expensive way before this news.
I've seen 78 Superbeetle convertibles go for $15,000! Superbeetle! Who wants a SuperBeetle?! Gimee an oval window or a split window...the heck with that bowed windshield and MacPherson strut garbage!

Didn't even know the original beetle was still in production
The new beetles are still being produced correct?!
That article was quite vague....
Personally I really dont like the beetles, but they are a popular car.

Yes Vass, they'll keep sucking the blood outta the Beetle in it's new form for probably the next 70 years.
Mostly the old bug was being produced at the VW Mexico plant. Still a popular choice down there.
I loved my VW bug, and I'd like to get another ( perhaps a Baja Bug this time ). Easy to work on, fun to drive.
It's always been a car that you either love or hate, nothing in between.

they were a great sleeper car
a big bore kit, stroker crank & dual carbs let me terrorize Camaros
but they offered very little protection bashing into things
I much prefer my GTI [and it's heater]

Cost a weeks wages for the parts!
heater packed up because the (wires) to the cooling faps had corroded.
Heater bank trunking shot with rust |

Perfect beginning enthusiasts car IMO. Easy to work on, parts used to be everywhere. Huge aftermarket too. I beat on my VW for years, and repaired it mostly with used parts cheap.
My dad and I spent many an afternoon working on that car. We got to the point that we could pull a motor in less than 30 minutes.
Some of the larger VW shows have engine pulling competitions, it's that easy.
