What to do? My phone # is posted somewhere on the web.

Ok, I have a odd and fairly bad situation I need some help with.

I got a call from my girlfriends mom today that her sisters phone# has apparently been posted somewhere on the web with something like "For a good time call....". All day her phone has been literally ringing off the hook. Googling for the # didnt help any and the #'s that are showing up on caller ID are almost all for pre-paid calling cards. Attempts to talk to the callers to get some info have failed. Local police don't seem to care much since there is really nobody to go after at this point.

She is fairly certain that some punk neighbor kids did this, but without anything more than a hunch, there isnt much she can do with that.

Does anyone have any ideas what direction to go with this?

Changing the # would be an option, but alot of trouble if it can be avoided.

Wow well even if it's taken off the net, don't you think the damage has been done?
Looking for a good time call... Oh that's horrible.

Good luck, I recommend changing the number. Even if removed from the web page, many people already have it, thus it will be pointless to try and fight the problem, atleast IMHO.

my suggestion is to hurt a small mammal, no REALLY hurt one. can you kick it? yes you can.

or call your telco and bitch at them about it. use the "f" word a lot and call them an f'ing C. that should show em!

prank calls suck, i know for sure having perhaps the gayest name in the phone book - mclemon - we have some crappy ones. usually i respond with "yeh, uh that's the worst ? my second name is a f***ing citrus fruit? you have to get out more, no really. and go on trisha or something yoou sad child." (for american readers substitute "trisha" with "oprah"

so you gotta call your telco, they will perphaps give you another number, but i don't know.

Call the phone company and tell them about the large amount of prank calls. They may be able to get a tracable number and then put pressure on whomever's on the other end to give up the source.

or...change the number.

Changing the number would be the easiest, safest route IMO.

Of course Chuckiechan has a brilliant idea

As I suspected Verizon is the only hope. Looks like a new number is the only reasonable solution. Luckly the current number was always unlisted so there isnt any real chance of anyone finding an address from it.

I just have to wonder about the mentality of someone doing this. Very juvinile.
