Definitely a topical subject, eating wild animals. Eating civet cats may be linked to SARS development / spread in China.

Another line of thought may be a prion disease in the bats (like Mad Cow Disease) which causes the neurological disorder. While the neurotoxin argument is quite sound, there is also a possibility of a prion (infectious protein particle) which is being ingested that causes the neurological symptoms.

Pure speculation on my behalf, but not that farfetched maybe.
