so his nose sticks out that far that no other part of his body is going to hit the wall first? I would think his feet would have hit the wall first.

Lots of variables involved. Just to list a few.. Could have tripped over something, could have been leaning over, etc. He was tired afterall.
I can't wait until I get old and run into walls.
