Sometimes it gets put in there without the players knowledge. I'm not saying he's innocent...but we shouldn't jump to conclusions. He is a very powerful hitter.

Okay, I just heard the news...he admitted it was corked...but it got mixed in with his other bats. Seemed it was one he used in "home run derbys"

what exactly does putting a cork into a bat do?

Cork gives the ball an added bounce of the bat...therefore the ball goes further. It also makes bats shatter easier though...cork along with the maple most hitters use in their bats now-a-days forces most corked bats to break quickly.

I don't think he's done this before...I do think he knew about this though...because he's been in such a slump sine he came back.

How do they get the cork into the bat? Do they just drill a spot in the bat and cover it up or something?

They don't put it in...it's made that way...the bat's core is filled with cork.

It's not against any rule to have a corked bat made...only to play with one
