US Army Raids Palestinian Embassy in Baghdad

How did I miss this little horror story? (The New York Times, FRYYY)

The Pentagon didn't even bother to inform the State Department that they were going to invade the diplomatic compound. If this had happened to an embassy of ours, it'd be an international incident at least. Matter of fact, it was -- in Iran, remember?

Another example of American exceptionalism. If we do it, it's okay.
Quote:
"We said this is the Palestinian embassy and there is international law and we are not letting you in," said one Palestinian guard still at the mission today. "They said, 'We are the international law, you have to let us in.' "

When will you learn that the US is above international law? Those laws don't apply to us.

Drip, drip.

Why? Come on, Dubya, why?

Or at least admit that it happened without your knowledge or control.

How about tracing back the orders to the officer(s) responsable? We could just execute them without evidence or due process...

Take that, Palestinians!!

That is absolutely appalling.

It'll definitely help along GW's plan to bring peace to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ingenuity at it's finest.

I saw it on TV, I don't understand why they had to arrest the embassy employees and officials.

It seems that America will have a damn hard time demanding of other nations to respect it's sovereignty and abide by international laws when dealing with it’s assets in the future. A case of shooting oneself in the foot IMO.

Just a thought; Is Dubya moving to make official some point about Palestine not being a recognized (offical / legal) nation?

Otherwise, he better quick get his apology out there live on the air and in writing. Think about all those embassys that the US has world wide...

Well if something does happen to one of our embassy's I think Bush would have more fuel thrown on the fire to go in and attack someone else.

It's not a wise idea to start doing stuff like this when we're wanting to try bring peace between the Israelis and Palestine.

Do we recognize Palestine as a nation? Was there evidence of terrorism there? I think we know the answer to question 1 (no we do not) and the second question would be the only reason this intelligence collecting foray would have taken place. Palestine is insignificant to us because it is a small poor area. The terror ties of Palestinian leadership is what draws our attention, especially because of its angst towards Israel, our friend.

When you see something, instead of reacting out of emotion (I can't believe we did that!?!?!), I would highly suggest looking at the possibilities of WHY it occurred.
