do we have a free opinion? i looked at some threads around here, anti-war anti-gun and i see those who posted these threads have no chance to really say their opinion because everyone else just ignores, spams or tries to flame him! (ok it's a bit extreme but i had no other words in my vocabulary )

that's very sad, i thought we could respect everyones opinion, i respect those you like guns and war and all that stuff, but you should respect us who dont like it.

we have to do something against that, maybe stop posting threads with this content, ignore these threads or just respect them and try to find out why he thinks so, ask him, understand him, you dont have to have agree with him but just respect him.

i just had this feeling to post this
Creatures

maybe i see this totally wrong, just tell me

"What if tommorrow the war could be over? Isnt that worth fighting for? Isnt that worth dying for?" senseless but i like it

I respect your opinion very much and think that was well said. But I think everyone has an opinion that they want heard and if your willing to post yours then you need to be open minded enough to have someone voice there's. But I agree with the fact that sometimes people get a little heated and things get carried away to the point some threads get closed or just blown way out of porportion

btw love the duck

Creatures,

So you are proposing censoring those who would trounce on opinions you agree with? Several people have gotten upset because they start a controversial thread and then people with differing opinions debate the topic. Respect does not mean everyone sings We Are the World around a campfire and have pleasant discussions. I respect someone much more if they can articulate logical responses to an argument. Instead I see people get "offended" or irate because they cannot have the esoteric conversation with everyone agreeing at the end.

In short, if you cannot or are unwilling to defend your position, stick with non-controversial topics. If you want an intelligent debate bring it to forum.

Yup I have to agree, everyone is so different, their beliefs so wide ranging, that in arguing about a certain point, you will see the other people's view as well. It makes you an overall better person, IMO.

whoa now...lets not jump to conclusions here. creatures never mentioned anything about censorship of one particular side. imo, when discussing controversial topics, one just needs to discuss it in a respectful manner, no matter how much he/she disagrees with the opposing side. many times i see people post their opinions about a political something here, only to have someone else, who does not share the same opinion, lash out at them.

exactly can't agree with yall more. I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about till I read some of the threads Creatures had spoken about. But I agreed with his point based on the fact that I've seen several others get closed or get out of hand. And no Creatures did not mention censorship nor did he say that others should not be allowed to make their voices heard. Just that it needs to be done with some tact and respect for everyone

Ben,

My point is that a respectful, yet strong argument is oft complained as being a flame. If someone offers a strong, even harsh disagreement, it does not mean that they are disrespectful. The proponent of the original argument can do one of two things: 1. Articulate a logical rebuttal or 2. Complain how unfair the dismembering of his argument is. I have seen too many default to number 2 if they cannot debate effectively. It is in essence to ask to censor opposing viewpoints so no one's argument looks weak or irrelevant when in fact many times it is the proponent who is weak or irrelevant.

I agree with most of the things said except for one statement.
I also don't believe Creatures wanted anyone's side to be censored.
Also RADAR, it's very easy to offend people when names and ethnic jokes start getting thrown around.
I've been called all sorts of names that just in plain pissed me off.
I'll list the names I have been called back when TIMO was a big flame war:
Gh3y
Anti-American
Terrorist
Terrorist supporter

Those are just a few, but I won't mention names on who called me some of those.
If we would ALL read something with an open mind everything would be cool. Unfortunately that will never happen.
