I think it's good...it's because we do have to worry about China, we can't be held back by a useless treaty from a non-threat.

It's good and it makes sense. Now that we can shoot 'em down there's no longer an advantage to adhering to an arms restriction.

The thing is, most other would launch anyways. China would bawk at the agreement when the US asks why they just fire 50 nukes at them..... The agreement means nothing. Remember the "peace talks" with Japan? Yeah well they sudden backed out right before they attacked. Do you think there is any security with that document??? I don't think so....

What I don't understand is why anyone would bother with missiles if they wanted to blow up some nuclear bombs? Back in the mid-eighties when I was researching some of this stuff, all one had to do to blow up a city was to park a van or a car with a large trunk where you wanted the bomb, and blammo! I don't think things have changed in that regard. Who needs a missile?

I didn't get this missile shield idea then, and I don't get it now. It's a bunch of macho posturing if you ask me.

With the decision, Bush takes a huge step toward fulfilling a campaign pledge to develop and deploy an anti-missile system that he says will protect the United States and its allies, including Russia, from missiles fired by rogue nations.

Bush has said the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks heightened the need for such a system.
How would such a system have prevented the Sept 11 terrorist attack?

Or does it mean that the defense system is in case terrorists get hold of ICBMs? Why bother trying to obtain an expensive weapon like that when, as we all saw on Sep11 that one can be obtained for the price of an airline ticket?????

I'm not sure what this system is really supposed to achieve / prevent. If someone like Soddom Insane decides to toss something nasty over, then (if he has any sense at all) he just risks his country being turned into a parking lot by the US and her allies.

OTOH, if he tossed a biological weapon over, would a missile defense system neutralise the threat, or just distribute it over a different area to the one originally planned?

On the one hand, self-defense is necessary for any and all nations.

On the other hand giving a green light to a nuclear arms race is fatal, and sets an expiry date for humanity.

A nuclear arms race in the name of peace?. Interesting new approach.
