Historicle authenticity

I was wondering if any of ya'll had read Wladyslaw Szpilman's book, The Pianist. I'm wondering how much of the movie is historicly authentic. It might be a while till I can get my hands on the book so I'd kind of like to know.

And I'd also like to know how authentic the movie Druids is if anyone would happen to know.

I've seen the movie, and I was with a person who had read the book as well; she said the movie was very faithful to the book.

The book is a first-hand account by Szpilman; he was a well-known performer who survived (when so many died) because he had close friends who were musicians and who saw him as that, rather than only as a Jew.

Although, of course, his memory may be fallible, there's no reason to doubt the historical accuracy of his memoir. There are too many witnesses to these horrors.

I thought as much. It didn't seem to have things added to make it more "interesting." I hate it when they do that, and I don't necessarily think it makes it more interesting. I prefere they stay as close to the real thing as they possible can.

IMO The Pianist or Road to Perdition should have taken best picture instead of Chicago. That's one of the best films I've seen, right up there with Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart, and Road to Perdition.

I just watched the behind-the-scenes interviews on the DVD and the director Roman Polanski said that he wanted to keep the movie as it was in real life, nothing more nothing less. That in my book gives him very high marks as a director.
