We wil be able to, but will we have wanted to afterwards.

There are 2 Farside strips that remind me of this. 1 is a scientisit who invented a bark decoder, only to find that all dogs say is "Hey, Hey, Hey!". The other is a scientist who disguises himself as a bear and begins to decode bear grunts, only to find out one of them is saying "Zipper!" and pointing at him.

We can already communicate with most animals when needed. I can tell a dog to sit. I can tell a cat to sit to, but they probably will ignore me (cats ignore everything we tell 'em, IMO ). I can also tell my pet galah to dance, and he does.

But will we ever speak to animals like we speak to friends at the pub? "Hi, Rover, how was work today?" "Fine, same old sheep I had to chase about. How about you?". No.

That's why I voted no.

Cheers
Mick

I agree with Mick.

It would be a novel thing at first but would probably become pointless soon after. How much can you really talk to your dog about?

Nothing wrong with talking to your dog. Nothing at all.

It's only if your dog answers you that we'd worry, Surreal.

I talk to mine too, and she talks back, but I just can't make out what she's saying. But she does bark in the right places to "Who let the dogs out"

Intelligent conversation though,ain't gonna happen.

We have complete fluent communications with our dog and two cats. They completely understand our meanings and vice /versa.
Love is the key to any communications.
