This is a bit extreme but she does have a right to wear it if she wants. Maybe she should just reveal most of her face?
Besides.. It's not like most people could just pick up and leave the country anyway. |

No problem...
No picture = no I.D. = She doesn't need to drive.
It's not a right. It's a privilege granted by the state for a fee, and in consideration of certain tests and procedures.
...and just because your religion says you must go around in a mask doesn't mean our government has to allow it in public. If your religion requires ritual nude chicken sacrafices, that's fine at home. We don't allow those on the highway, sorry.
You can claim anything you want in the name of religion, but the government is under no obligation to allow it. Usually they will, but in the interest of public safety we can't have people driving cars in a mask.

I want to have my DL picture replaced with one of me wearing camo!!
That way, the cop pulling me over will not be freaked out by my ugly mug!
Of course, it would also help me to get away after a hold up, as they wouldn't have a good description of my face!
I understand religious feelings and beliefs, but this is a matter of public safety!

Both sides planned to call experts in Islamic law at the trial,
| This tells me that there are experts concerning Islamic law that are on the side of the state of Florida!

Cadd, I couldn't agree more even if I wanted to.
You have this way of explaining things...

I didn't think that was a law by islam, but more of a well ingrained (sp?) tradition.

Harder | I'd have to agree that they would most likely side with the state of florida.
Look at the pic on the right down the bottom.
Copy and pasted: Quote:
Driver’s identification rules in Muslim nations:
Saudi Arabia: Women aren't allowed to drive
Iran: Women wear a traditional Shadour, which does not cover the face.
Egypt: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
United Arab Emirates: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
Oman: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
Kuwait: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
Qatar: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
Bahrain: Women do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
Jordan: Women can drive if their faces are covered but do not cover their face in I.D. pictures
| Notice that in most of these areas they are allowed to drive but must have thier viel off for identification but can drive with thier viels on.
She is wasting her money against the state on this one.

Reading the article, it seems her gripe is that they allowed it in her original photo, and: Quote:
Freeman's attorneys argue that state officials didn't care that she wore a veil in her Florida driver's license photo until after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, an allegation the state denies.
-further down-
Freeman, a convert to Islam previously known as Sandra Kellar, wore her veil for the photo on the Florida driver's license she obtained after moving to the state in 2001.
Nine months later, she received a letter from the state warning that it would revoke her license unless she returned for a photo with her face uncovered.
| So some license dept clerk fumbled & let her wear it, then the error was caught later, probably under routine checks of new licenses. Big deal!
I'm surprised they caught it after only nine months!

| I knew it! I circled back because after reading Neo's post, it occurred to me that this woman must be American born.
Were she born and raised Muslim outside of the American culture she would have never sued. Suing all the time is an American thing. All the more for her to understand the purpose of the drivers license ID and her claims a bunch of crock.
