A Bit of Help (Prayer) Please...

I hesitate to ask here, because this is gonna sound really trivial, but this is driving me nuts.

The deal is, I have to move. I am looking in the Long Beach area, as this area has a LOT of art galleries and old, stately houses that would LOVE the kind of furniture I make.

Problem 1): I can only afford a small 2-bedroom apartment for my daughter and I.

You wouldn't believe the land rates in California! (ex.: $1,000/a month for 2-BR apt. that you would not want to park your car on the street in, let alone the idea of my daughter walking around!)

Problem 2): I need to find one with a garage that I can set up my woodworking shop in. Most apartments don't have this feature.

Problem 3): This being California, ("Land of the Flakes" ) the people who put listings in the paper, don't answer the phone, and don't return calls of inquiry!

And when I knock on the door, nobody there!

Darn, this is turning into a rant. Sorry.

Anyway, it's beginning to look like I'm gonna need something along the lines of a miracle. I'm not all that picky, I just need something that will WORK OUT for us!

So I turn to you, TechIMO-ers. If you can occasionally envision a successful scenario to this, maybe a prayer or two, I'd be really grateful!

Since you have the truck, have you thought about looking in San Pedro? I think you should look it over. The rent will be more reasonable than downtown LB, but you will be just over the Vincent Thomas bridge.
