Need Your Advice

Hi all, unfortunately this is not a very nice subject.

A few days ago, we bought some coloured Christmas lights for this nice pine tree outside our house, and we set the lights up.

At around 6pm today we noticed that someone had torn the lights off the tree and thrown them on the ground.

What do I do?.

Im thinking of buying new lights and a tape for the video camera, then I will set up the new lights and have it filmed while the lights are on for the next couple of days to see if this happens again.

Any other ideas?.

Need help, thanks

In my original post I said that I hope it doesnt have anything to do with racial/religious hatred. Then I removed it thinking surely it can't be that way. But I reposted this section because I can't help but fear a possibility like this.

I personally think that is a good thing to do.
Regardless you can't let them see that it bothers you. They do it to irritate people, it maybe a one time only deal (kinda like gettin' your house TP'd lol).

Can't hurt

Good luck to you and we should put the little brats that did it in the "Scared Straight" program lol

That show was cool lol

Oh boy. My father had an issue with a neighbor across the street. They would dump nails in front of his mail box and other interesting activities over a period of a couple of years. All because he wouldn't let them turn his front yard in to a snow mobile trail. My dad set up a camera and recorded some of it and the man backed off. You could try it and it may or may not work. People doing it for racial/religous reasons seem to generally believe they are in the right no matter what though. Also, it may make things worse. It could also prevent things from getting worse. It is worth a shot though.

Your Safety!

In our neck of the backwoods - students were picking up christmas decorations off others houses - this went on until the police - a great bunch around here put out a request for info = within a day or two the student group [ several who should know better] were apprehended and duly read the riot act -

From experience - put them back - do record it - and make a statement for the local authorities - they need to know also - there may be a problem which they will not tell you about - but in the end your info may help them.

A person where I work at was havingb problems with a contractor while he was at work.He set up a video camer and connected it to his home pc so that he could monitor it from another computer.Do a search for "surveillance" and you should find some links to this setup.

I think I'd write it off as a simple act of childish vandalism. If I had to put them back up a 2nd time, I think I'd forgo the camera, and instead spend a little time peering out my darkened window... firearm in hand.

Finger, and that would be different because.......

I would put them back up, and video the thing for a day or two.
If it happens twice, then contact the police.
Are there any group in your area that might take offense to the lights?

I'm for that, but also I agree with Fingers, almost
I think the gun might be a little extreem.
Of course I have a black belt in Tongue Fu And it would be accompanied with my snapping pictures of the red handed suspects.

If their appearance and age did not indicate pranksters but something more sinister. I would snap/film from the inside as I dialed the police.

(but I'm just a poor defenseless woman)
