Miles Davis..."Kinda Blue" ....the Sgt, Pepper of jazz. If you don't have this one, ooooh, man, you're in for a treat!!
Yeah, Dave Brubeck, "Take Five"... definately. What has appeared here so far is your basic "cool jazz". But there is a
whole lot of types of expression in jazz.
Be-bop: really fast sax improv...a la Charlie Parker ("the Bird") If you can dig this wailin' fast-tempo style invention, ( Miles was a part of this, BTW) then you need to check out Dizzy Gillespie, as well.
There's a type of jazz which incorporates symphonic stuff, too. "Rhapsody In Blue" by Geo. Gershwin, for example.
Some jazz revolves around a blues-oriented thang...Count Basie was the Jimi Hendrix of his day! Ooooh yeah, man. this cat swang SO HARD that Beethoven is STILL spinnin' in his grave, goin'
WTF was THAT?!?"
BLAM! I ain't even gettin' up to present day, but back in the '80's, a band called Weather Report released an album called "Heavy Weather" that all the cats and kittens are
TO THIS DAY still digging...WHOOO! dang...
Want something cool to put on the spike when that cool babe comes over? I recommend the Miles recommendation above, maybe Brubeck too, and also Quincy Jones "You've got it Bad, Girl"....
Oh yeah, it works
every time, baby...
There's more, but like....
I'll catch ya on the flip side, man....
