effective way of advertising

so i have started my own little repair business. made $100 so far and 5 clients. (i like saying clients) all the clients are pretty far, but i live in a HUGE housing/apartment area, what do you think the most effective, least-offensive, inexpensive way is of letting people in the area know?

flyers on windshields?
flyer with tab-pull offs at post office?
passing them out in person?
leaving them under/on/in doors?

anything else?

you have a newspaper delevery person? print off and copy some flyers and have the person pass them out with the pappers. you can give them some extra money for thier extra work. i used to stuff them as i went so its not alot of extra work.

Host a small lunch/dinner maybe even an outdoor BBQ, have plenty of info and brochures for people to take home. Don't forget a sign in sheet! Have your friends come and be your sales staff!

no one gets the paper here, to tell you the truth foodbiz, no one is all that 'neighborly' around here. there is a leasing office though, perhaps i should ask them to place flyers there.

If there's one thing I detest, it's finding flyers on my car. I consider it vandalism myself. I did NOT give anybody permission to touch my car, let alone stick a piece of paper under the windshield wiper.

There, enough of my hang-ups.

I think if you want to make a good reputation, advertise in a good way.

Ask your tenant office if you can leave some flyers. They probably have a public bulletin board, if not, ask if you/they can put one up. Tack one of those flyers w/ the tear-offs on it.

Get some biz cards. I got 500 for about $25. Pass them bad boys out to everyone you meet. Also, ask places if you can put a biz card holder, they're only $.99 for the little plastic ones. I taped (kinda tacky, but looks good) to the back of one, so when they run out, they can still see what was in it. Like one of those "Time to reorder" deals.

Present yourself in a professional and tasteful manner so you get those kind of clients!

already did the spamming there was a thread about that, actually got a customer too but anyways, hmmm lets me describe where i live...

there are blocks and blocks of townhouses basically with about 3 floors of 4 apartments each floor. each apt has a little mail door spot in a big metal box along the back door of each house. so maybe just stick some flyers in those do you think?

ooo. do you have any like markets? ask if you can tape a flyer to the doors. i think a local drug store here lets people sometimes for like lost pets and stuff. dosn't hurt to ask. i dont think one of thoes big ones like giant eagle would let you but the smaller ones might. like convience stores as well. maybe even the flyers with the tear off phone number things like you see on campuses for roommates...

too close to downtown for there to be anything. you have to take a bus to get anywhere but downtown. but maybe i will take a walk soon and carry some around with me. there is a big apt (13 story) a couple blocks down with a deli in the basement. maybe?
