If I have a 1st year number of $2323.14 and a second year total of $437.10, what percentage of decrease do I have from the first year to the second year?
What is your formula? Increase or decrease.

2323.14 - 437.10 = 1886.04
1886.04 / 2323.14 = 0.811849479583666933546837469975981
So you had a 81.1849479583666933546837469975981% decrease in sales, net profits, or whatever from the first to second year.
So thats saying that you only made 18.8150520416333066453162530025% of what you had in the first year.
You need the percentage of decrease...it's unknown, Let it = X.
Your base amount is $2323.14.
And your Amount in dollars after the decrease is $437.10.
sooooo,
2323.14(x) = 437.10
Divide both sides by the coefficient of X. This leaves you with....
0.18815052041633306645316253002402
To change this to a percentage just multiply by 100.
18.815052041633306645316253002402%
or approximatly
18.82%

he asked for the percent decrease.... this is not the correct answer. 1-18.82% is the correct answer as blaze06 said, I believe.
If you want the Percentage decrease, you have touse the Amount of the decrease in the formula. If you want Percentage remaining, you use the Amount remaining in the formula.
