credit card signature checks
first off, is it me, or are they really cracking down on unsigned credit cards lately? for the past few weeks everytime i used my card they have asked me for id cuz (they couldnt see) my card wasnt signed.
second off, ticks me off. i have signed my cards 3 times each, and they all wear off. and the place to sign is so small, i have a very tall sig. it wears off so easily so every some odd months i have to re-sign it. grrr

I use a thin point permanate felt tip marker and I do not sign them with my name. I put all my cards, PLS CHECK PHOTO ID all in caps. this way they must ask me and if they do not ask me I cop an attitude asking how do they know that is mine? did you bother to ask for my id? someone else could have made this purchase, and this is specifically why i put on there for check photo id, cuz they can get my signature from there and not the credit card or debit cards.

well sixfOOt4 I have all the reasons to be a B_______ fill in the blank when it comes to my credit, cards, debit, anything to do with my finicial reports because I had found out about 6 years ago that someone else was using my name, social security number and everything and racked up a bunch of stuff in my name. So yes you can say im a royal A__ B_____ when it comes to stuff like this.
I got this all cleared now took a while but its possible. Their are many things a person can do to try and protect thier identy from idenity theft and the likes.
As a general rule I do not purchase over the internet unless its with a credit card that way if something goes wrong I can get the charges reversed.
One can never be too careful when it comes to thier credit reports.

My problem is that the silly little strip you sign on wears off. That and the little eagle logo. Under both it says void, which means I am replacing my primary card 2x a year.

No signature annoyance, but the magnetic data strips often fail on my cards within a couple of months, which is annoying because I have to wait for the cashier at stores to manually verify my cards.
I guess working around large stereo speakers with massive magnets doesn't help the situation... | |

I put "see ID" on all of my credit cards, but I've noticed that almost nobody ever checks it, or even bothers to verify the signature.. arg.
At least when I was a cashier I would check.

what kind of wallet do you all keep your cards in? Wondering if this could be a partial contributor of it rubbing off.
I just use a pure leather 1/2 fold style wallet, I don't seem to have the problems you all speak of. I keep it in my coat pocket all the time or pants pocket, if no pockets then my waistband.
I use the permanet thin tipped markers and rarely come off.
Not sure why yours come off so much.

I never had anything wash off except for when I ran my ATM card through the washer and dryer. Then it ended up running..
Actually I just used a regular pen. I will start using the thin tipped markers now. |

I do what NeoStar does, I write on the back of the card "check ID".
So far I have had only a handfull of stores ask. EVERY ONE of them were while I was on vacation in a resort town(Disney a few years ago, St. Augustine earlier this year).
In my own town, it is never checked. The stores assume that if the electronic check is ok then it is safe (FOR THEM) to sell you the merchandise.
