help me convince the wife!
I just found out yesterday that we finally have cable internet access available! w00t!
I have to convince her that we need to dump AOL though! We would be using IE 6 instead of the graphical prettiness of AOL. She wants to keep her favorite places seperate, and she likes the icons and junk....ugh. I finally got away from using AOL permanently and I need to ween her off of it so I can get HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS!!! I've been suffering 3.1kb max download speeds for too long!
Help me my brothers and sisters of the web!

This is easy, if you are running XP just setup different logins and she will have her favorites and whatnot and you will have yours. This can even be done in 98 but not as cleanly.

Take her to a place where she can use a system with broadband and let her see the benefits. Then explain that it is only a mere $20 more a month and that the entertainment you would get from broadband would save money because you'd go out less and spend more time on the computer home with her... |

Redfury, I convinced my mrs by explaining the benefits to mankind of my helping with distributed computing projects (UD & FAD), and then explaining that it takes far less time for me to manage the systems with an always on connection. Turned out it was also cheaper, as we had a second phone line for dial-up, and lots of calls on it.
Although my mrs doesn't help or understand my DC projects, she does support me doing them because of the health research benefits (except when the power bill goes through the roof - then I've gotta scale back a bit. ).
Maybe something along those lines?
Cheers
Mick

Hey, Red, no sweat. Here's some stuff you can do:
When she's on the 'net, and she clicks on a site, stand behind her and go "tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick...."
She'll turn around and ask why you are doing that. o'course, it depends upon the relationship. My ex would brain me with an ashtray, starting the whole terrible cycle....
Anyway, you tell her "Well, I'm just counting off the seconds, the precious seconds that you can never get back, that we are wasting by not having cable!" look wistful, and roll your eyes Heavenward....
On the AOL issue, I would approach it from a different angle....understand that the less experienced of computer folk (n00bs) LOVE AOL because:
a) It's easy
b) It's hard to change (they think)
c) They are n00bs.
I recommend ceaseless whining. Really. You won't get anywhere with logic. |

You can still use AOL on broadband for like I think 10bucks a month or something if she's concerned about that.
Always On
Infinately faster!!!
You won't have to spend as much time on the net and stuff.. because umm you'd be done faster... yeah thats right!! and if you find the end of the internet you'll have LOADS more time to spend with her
