BANGKOK (Reuters) - Security guards smashed their way into an official limousine with sledgehammers on Monday to rescue Thailand's finance minister after his car's computer failed.
Suchart Jaovisidha and his driver were trapped inside the BMW for more than 10 minutes before guards broke a window. All doors and windows had locked automatically when the computer crashed, and the air-conditioning stopped, officials said.
'We could hardly breathe for over 10 minutes,' Suchart told reporters. 'It took my guard a long time to realize that we really wanted the window smashed so that we could crawl out. It was a harrowing experience.'

Thought you all would get as much of a kick out of this as I did.
Originally posted by Mike I think that was in case the car got stolen or something... It'd automatically lock so the guy inside wouldn't be able to get out.
I can see it now, another lawsuit. "Car thief steals car, security system locks vehicle down, car thief dies from suffocation. Family sues car owners and security system manufacturer"
Cars are not airtight, so shouldn't die of suffocation.
But - should be some kind of failsafe device that at least allows doors to be opened manually. Pretty stupid programming to lock everything down and not let the occupants out.
It's not like a computer failure is likely to be related to car theft anyway, is it?
BMW should know better. Maybe they need some programming help to go with their great engineering.

We're talking BMW here. They're probably VERY airtight. Plus if it was blazing hot out and the A/C stopped working with the windows up? Probably dead occupant.
Never said computer failure was related to car theft. Mike said it could have been a security system of some sort that messed up. There are some security systems that disable everything. Seen it on Discovery. Cops used it to catch car thieves....love Discovery channel.
