Well, Life for me is over....
I have been sucked back into Everquest, and there is no way out. I havent played it in about 2 years, then a coworker mentioned he was on it and we talked so long i got fired up and started it again. A day later...... sigh....and summer was going to be so pretty outside......

1. If you have kids please adopt them out so somebody else can take care of them.
2. If you have animals take them to an animal shelter of some sort so they can be put down humanely and not be starved
3. Call family, say you're going to be out of town for a few years so they won't waste law enforcements time looking for you because they haven't heard from you in an age and you won't answer the phone.
4. See ya in another 2 years

Out, the reason they call it that...
You just can't stop playing it.... (other than people who don't like the game/genre/having to pay etc of course) The game concept and design is such that the longer you stay on, the more probability you will
1) have fun finally
2) get a cool item
3) meet new friends
4) the list goes on
The way to stop playing is cold turkey, you'll feel the need for a while, but then it goes away. And there are better Onlines games out there now, with better implemented design and rules of play.
I feel for you chipbgt. Me and the wife got up to L52 and then decided that that was it for us. Its tough and very time consuming. But man is it fun. The only game you'll ever need. In fact its more than a game, its like a social thing.
The people whom I dislike the most are the ones who said "Get a Real Life , go outside etc etc" Seriously... what is wrong with playing a game for hours, instead of watching TV for hours, or watching some silly sports game/racing for hours *ahem Nascar*
Basically who's to say who's really having the "Real Life" here.
So what if you are interacting with an computer character, people seem to forget that there is a real person behind those pixels, and their characters do show thru.

I used to play stuff like that when I was on shift work. Having 2 days to switch from 12 hour day shifts to 12 hour night shifts requires something to keep you occupied and awake for 20+ hours...
Now I don't start because I know I'll get pulled back in...

I played EQ when the game first hit the market for about six months religiously. Then one day I woke up and decided to move onto other things. I agree though, if games your thing fine, it’s no different then someone watching eight hours of TV a day or obsessed with sports. It’s nice to have something in your life you can get passionate about.
Sometimes the doldrums of waking working, eating, sleeping can be overwhelming. I’ve got to go to bed now, so I can get up and go to work in the morning.
Regards,
Zotz Mein

You can class playing computer games as a hobby. Like Zotzmein said, you can spend 8 hours watching mindless TV or spend 8 hours on the computer chatting with people. At least when you're chatting with people, you're communicating. Unlike the TV you're just sitting there absorbing info like a drone, there's no interaction.
