non-swearing...

(fingers, dont worry i'm not gonna do anythin stupid!!)
i propose we use the following words instead of asterisking our swear words.

use the following to replace instead of your swear words (or how about instead of that ---i'm a potty mouth--- thing its automated so that these are used instead, just a thought)

Fadger
Fadge
Badger
boo pie (nickname of friend @ school)
spudnick (alternate spelling of sputnik, and by alternating the spelling it becomes offensive)
radge
monk
cheb
chicken³ (think chicken times chicken times chicken)

other replacements welcome

I like that fadger word but don't really understand it. Sounds good, though.

I remember one from that episode of 'Father Ted', for the un initiated a must see, where there the couple was shouting at Ted but no cursing was allowed. The only one I can remember is

Fuppin Backsturd

There was also that one from Battlestar Galactica

Frack

and growin up as kids we were allowed to say

'Feck' yes the use of it does pre-date Fr. Ted

Griobhta

btw i'm sure we could all submit dodgy words and no-body would be the wiser

HA HA HA Lemon[H]ead, you may know me too well.

I don't think that's gonna happen though. The reason I asterisk works out is two fold: 1) It lets the member know that the language used was unacceptable 2) It provides a reminder to both old and new members alike that we maintain a higher standard of conduct at TechIMO than your "average" discussion forum.

I don't have data to back it up, but I'd be willing to bet that we would have a lot more trouble with language and conduct if there weren't occasional visual reminders in the forums.

(Please don't tell me what f@dg@r means... you do want to be able to continue using it... right )

I find it absurd that people consider substitutes for swearing are somehow more acceptable. If I got really mad at someone, and told them to "Go to Heck" instead of "Go to He**" does it really make any difference. The intent of my words is still the same. I would still have the same feelings in my heart. The actual words used have little bearing on that person understanding the meaning of what I have said.
