There have been plenty of cars labelled dogs but now there is a car for dogs.
Honda has launched what it describes as a "pet-friendly small utility vehicle" for the Japanese market and called it the Vamos Hobio Travel Dog.
Honda says its distinctive pet-friendly features include:
* Wipeable door linings for easy removal of dog hair and saliva;
* Wipeable mats for easy removal of dirt and stains;
* Floor mats treated to fight bacteria, odours and mites;
* Heater to warm the rear seats efficiently in cold weather;
* Tote bag for walking the dog;
* Special exterior stickers;
* Colour-coded attachment hooks; and
* Colour-coded utility hooks.
The car was developed with input from Honda's Travel Dog website community.
That was created in November 2001 to help customers treat their dogs as full members of the family when travelling in a car.
This website provides information on cafes, restaurants and lodging facilities accepting pets, as well as ideas from other registered members on travelling with their favourite pet.
The Vamos range is powered by a 660cc, three-cylinder SOHC engine paired to either a five-speed manual transmission or a three or four-speed automaticand is available from today.
