Old stomping grounds

I am a member of Classmates and got an E-mail from them saying that there were new people in my list. Military, highschool, college.

So I go and check it out and what do I find pics of my old post. It is no longer used as it was shut down after the first gulf war. My unit deployed to the gulf 2 months after I left and they never returned to the post. The unit was deactivated in the early 90's and then reactivated in the late 90's as a generator company. It used to be a heavy equipment company.

Anyhow here are some pics if you are interested. I had to share as this brings back so many memories.

This one is actually the 79th Engineer Battalion. I was the 249th Engineer Battalion, we shared the kaserne half and half.

This is also the 79th.

There is a story with this building but it is kinda morbid so I won't post.

If you notice the tall weeds on the right this was a parking lot. At the other end is the mess hall and the PX ( beer and smokes )

This is the chapel. This is about 3 buildings away from the building I was in.

And last but not least the front gate.
There were many a night I would stumble through these gates. The building on the left is the 249th HHC ( headquarters ). The building I was in was to the right 2 buildings.

The place where they are standing to take the pic is actually a pull off for taxi's. They used to line up there on Fri and Sat night waiting to take us downtown to the bars.

The tree you see in the center is in the middle of the in/out lanes. We used to line up here for PT (physical training) we would then run around the kaserne and come in the back gate by the buildings in the rist pic. It was about 2 miles total. I can remember running that thing with a major hangover many many times.
My time spent there was some of the best times of my life, I made friends there that I will have for life. It is a kinship knowing that you had there back and they had yours. Great times
