I got to experience a couple of barrel rolls in a Gates Lear Jet back in the 80's....at Van Nuys Airport, these things were coming in and out
all the time...
But the
weirdest physical sensation I ever experienced in the air was in a plain ol' Piper Cub, or something like that....The pilot (a friend with a flying license) rented a plane, and we took off for the Mojave Desert, and during the flight, he says, "Hey, wanna try something?"
So, I say "sure!"
I really am much more stable these days...
What he does, is, he goes into a power climb into the sun....the engine was
SCREAMING..... then this marvelous idiot conks the engine at the top of the parabola, and we begin free-falling, and then he catches the engine again, and
commences a POWER DIVE!!
What happened next, the flight log notebook begins FLOATING in front of my face, and I had this bizarre sensation of my insides trying to exit my throat....and my feet were feeling as though they were being
squeezed.... (it was lack of blood).
Basically, we were weightless, is what happened. It only lasted for a little bit, but man, what an astounding feeling!
Fun with airplanes!
