HDTV Ripoff!
OK, I got a 3 grand Sony HDTV and my cable company (Cox) offers the service and I sign up for the service.
$49.95 for install. No self install available - they said it was too difficult for a consumer to do. Dude comes out, hooks up 3 wires from the box to the tv, and says "see ya."
$10.30 extra for HDTV per month in addition to the cable package I already have - 6 stations - but more stations are coming in the future
Now, mind you, I have 2 digital boxes with everything but porn and paid sports. Plus I have 2 other tvs running "basic" cable. I have Cox local and long distance phone service not to mention Cox internet.
So, they announce that 2 more stations are now being broadcast in HDTV. ESPN and Discovery. "Cool!" I says.
Guess what? Go to tune them in and you gotta subscribe either individually at $5.95 @ month or I can get both for a mere $8.95 @ month. What a rip! I already have and "pay" for them on the digital side and now that I'm paying for HDTV I have to PAY more to watch what is already coming down the line anyway. It's not like it's costing them all that much to put it on the system.

I work for Comcast cable... Man that really sucks bad! We only charge 10 bucks to come out and our policy is that if its HDTV it gets broadcasted across ALL of of packages. You just need the box to decode the signal. I can't beleve that Cox has the balls (heheh get it? ok dumb joke sorry) to go charging that much!
Right now I think our HDTV lineup is betweek 6-8 channels with more on the way.
BTW, I think that the reason that they send someone out there to hook it up is a mixture of the number of different HDTV types, and the fact that there is something that they have to do on the pole. I know that when we first started doing HDTV we had a limited number of boxes so the tech had to go out to verify that the customer actually had the real mccoy.
Sorry to hear that you are getting screwed over so badly. If you ever move to MA, CT, or NH, let me know!!!!

Yeah, whatta bum deal, Bill.
That's the kind of nonsense that chased me away from cable TV 20 years ago.
I've never had it since, either.

comcast cables sucks pretty bad too. they add 2 new spanish stations and jakc the price up 5 bucks. WTF!!!!!! then to get their cable internet it cost 40 bucks if you r a subscriber to regular cable, if not then its 55. they keep buying out the competition around here, so if you want cable then get it from them. i was tired of their crap so i got rid of it, and now i got regular tv and verizon dsl. cable is way out of hand, a complete rip off, and god forbid should you try to watch a movie on it 10 minutes of movie, 5 minutes of commercial fact is, tv sucks, nothing good on it. as for HDTV, its a ripoff imo, picture looks good to me already, i dont need an HDTV. im sorry, but comcast, you suck bad.

That does suck man!!! I have Time Warner and they came out and hooked up the HDTV convertor box, ran a new wire from the pole to the house and so far I don't have to pay extra for any channels that are broadcast is HDTV. I do have to pay extra for the HDTV box, but installation was free...

Just talked to some chick at Cox.
She says: "While we told you that new stations were going to be added in the near future, we never said it was going to be included with your HDTV service." What a load of CRAP!!!

Ya, taht is a load of crap. I'd work my way up the beaurocracy until I found someone who realizes what BS that is. Start calling people at Cox HQ if you must.
