Kids DVD player question?

What's the difference between a DVD player with Progressive Scan and one without? I bought a Sony DVD player few years back and was looking up the specs to refresh my memory and it doesn't have Progressive Scan but pretty much has everything else you would want. I noticed that most of the quality DVD players out now have this Progressive Scan? Will it make a big difference on picture quality? My Sony DVD is a really nice DVD player (or was top of the line a few years ago). I am curious because I notice when watching my HDTV, any program that is broadcasted in HDTV is crisp and clear. I expected that of my DVD player as well. I am using component in for the picture quality and fiber optic digital out for the sound but the picture quality is no where near as sharp as any program in HDTV, though, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. all tell me that my DVD should be just as clear.

Here are some sites which may help answer your question : http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...e-10-2000.html

If you have a rear projection TV, a progressive scan DVD player will really give you much better video.
