My two favorite suggestions:
1) None of the above. Thats right, I want an option on the ballot to vote for "None of the above". If no one gets "X" amount of the vote, then it forces a new election, with new people.
2) An enforceable campaign platform. Seriously, why can't the elected be held to a written contract that is set forth publicly during the campaign. At the end of the elected term, the politicians actions are reviewed according to the contract. If he performed the duties according to the contract he gets paid and can go on with his life. If not... (Federal crime, broken contract, massive law suit, criminal record...)
3) Make each politician publish their tax returns. All of them... (No hiding under the wifes name, off shore company, foreign corperation...)
4) Force the elections to require a minimum percentage of the registered TAX PAYERS in order to be confirmed to office. THis would force government to get the voters into the voting booth, and the only way to do that would be to make the system understandable. (I hope).
5) Have the politicians pay for the privilege of running for office. Oh, say, at a minimum at least matching funds equal to all of the campaign costs. This money would go to fund the political over-site committee. This committee would hire PI's to follow each pol around and report to the public every breath they take...
6) Just shoot them all. (But the cost of bullets, caskets, burial...) OK, this one could get expensive, but wouldn't it just be fun...
(So there's more than two, WHOOPEE!!!! You get a bonus!!!)
