hey yall. im in electronics 3 at my high school which is the highest level offered. as a final project my teacher has given us the following guide lines. we have to make a contraption that will take a random ball from a source of black and white pingpong balls. it will carry that object at least 6", then it will separate the white ones from the black ones. also it will count how many white ones and how many black ones there are. we are using some kind of stamp chip (bs2???) to handle the inputs and outputs. i have a basic layout already that ive come up with. i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
my layout is like this. first we have a funnel with the balls in it. that is situated over a horizontally rotating disk which has holes along its circumference just small enough to not allow the ball to fall through. every time a hole comes around a ball falls into it. it is carried around and is taken off the wheel by an arm which is extended out. it then is pushed onto a little "chute" which has an ultrabright led and a photocell on it. when a white ball passes over it, the light from the led will reflect onto the photocell and activate it. if a black ball passes, little or no light will be reflected and the photocell will not turn on. depending on the state of the photocell, an arm controlled by a stepper motor will move left or right, allowing the ball to fall into the box that it belongs in. there will also be some sort of trigger to advance the count of the balls.
