iTunes thoughts, if you have any
I'm wondering how many of us in the TechIMO realms will use iTunes, at 99c per song.

99 cents a song equals about 20 bucks for 20 songs, same price as a CD. The pricing is still not right.
They still don't get it, they can't charge like that and hope for good business.

GB: your vote was....?
I figured most people would have heard about iTunes on the news or radio, but Apple just launched a site that lets you purchase songs for $0.99; as goldenbuddha posted, the price only offers the purchaser minimal benefit. Now add in the concept of yet another data format - AAC.....Apples webstore site says: Quote: |
In fact the sound was so good that audiophiles who beta tested the iTunes Music Store were astonished to learn they were listening to 128 kbps sound files. The secret? It’s the new AAC format, which combines sound quality that rivals CDs with smaller files sizes (compared to MP3s).

Ahhhh IC
Well I agree .99 per song is too much, plus you don't even get the cd case with that whats the point?
Yes its nice that they allow you to download A song, and not have to have the whole CD, but still getting too little for too much $$
Not to mention, can anything burn the AAC format to CD?
If I'm buying it, you'd better believe I'll be burning it...
Or do we have to buy an iMAC to burn it
ALL BETS ARE OFF
Just read... Give me a break apple.. typical Quote: |
The iTunes Music Store requires a Mac equipped with iTunes 4 and Mac OS X Version 10.1.5 or later.

You have to pay? What a "novel" idea! What will they think of next?

I voted none of the above, my reasoning being
I understand the need to license and protect your property, but they are going about it the wrong way, suing kids for gods sake...
I use to buy a ton of CDs, but now I am not, til its settled, I'll just listen to the radio (including streaming audio) and watch MTV.
Thats my vote =)
BTW, info on AAC format ***
About AAC
AAC is high-quality audio coding technology and the solution of choice for many broadcast and electronic music-distribution applications. AAC is compatible with all digital rights management, encryption, and watermarking solutions available today. In independent tests, the coding efficiency of AAC proved to be superior to MP3, providing higher-quality audio reproduction at lower bit rates. AAC provides up to 48 channels of audio, sample rates of up to 96 kHz, and can achieve ITU-R broadcast quality at 320 kbps for a 5.1-channel audio program. Developed and standardized as an ISO/IEC specification by four industry leaders (AT&T, Dolby Laboratories, Fraunhofer IIS, and Sony Corporation), AAC is supported by a growing number of hardware and software manufacturers.

I believe that means you cannot copy it. Even if you own it.

Bill, its not always a matter of paying (yes it is for some I know) its paying too much. They fix the prices of CD's more than what's needed, profit is fine but give me a break 18 bucks for a cd with 4 good songs is ludicrous.
