Give me a BREAK!! Stupid HOA

So I look outside on our front door today and there is a small door knob hanger note thingy there.

Its from our HOA (Home Owners Association)

We have 2 problems, one to trim up the yard a bit more .. not a big suprise I hate doing that

The other

We have FANS in our windows... OMG not a fan!
I'm on the 2nd floor of a townhouse, it gets HOT up here and the AC is pretty weak so it doesn't make it up here anyways... not to mention its not hot enough outside to warrant turning on the air... lord help us if we want fresh air

WHY in the world is it an infraction to have a simple fan in the window?!?!

I'll be calling the landlord tomorrow, she has some ties into the HOA around here so hopefully they'll ignore that one because it is RIDICULOUS!!

Its not like I have a huge freakin' AC unit in the window its just a fan

Can anybody (not on medication) find a reason not to allow a simple fan in the window?
Yes my room points towards the road and I'm aware they're pickier for that side, but its still ludicrous.

I've never understood the whole "Home Owners Association" thing. Maybe you can explain it for me.

You own the house, right?

You own the property, right?

So what's keeping you from telling the HOA to buzz off?

The bozo who almost burnt down the trees on our property last year during a cookout wants to start an HOA for our neighborhood. He's talking about introducing covenants and assessing fees to install (now get this) a fountain in the neighborhood retention pond.

I have no intention of joining, nor will I pay a cent towards any fee. There's was no HOA or covenants when I bought the house, so they're out of luck AFAIC.

HOAs can be a good thing if they're sensibly run, but that happens all too seldom.

I think in most cases you must agree to abide by the HMO rules as part of the buyer's contract. If not, it can eventually come down to legal action (at least where I live).

Don't want to abide by the rules, don't by property which has one (HOA) and don't let one be created where you already live.

What if the majority of homeowners in the neighborhood want one? Does that mean you have to sell your house if you disagree? What a great way to get an unwanted neighbor to move.

If I find that I'll be bound by whatever ridiculous rules this HOA comes up with, I'll go to court to prevent its inception. The bozo who instigated it was elected Chairman (of course) and he doesn't have the common sense of a gnat.

It's so he will have quick access to water for his next cook out.

Well I don't own the house, nor would i want to buy one with an HOA... back when I started renting here I'd never heard of anything as crazy as a bunch of bored people that go around nagging about pathetic little things like fans in the window

As M_Six stated they CAN do good things, like make sure your neighbor doesn't have 2 rusted cars parked in his front yard with a pink and lavender house ...
but most times they just nitpick about stupid stuff

I agree,I have a fan in the window right now myself.

My neighbors just put up a 6'privacy fence so they didn't have to watch our kids playing on the trampoline.I don't understand people like that.I wonder if they realize the kids can see over it when they jump

what a bunch of morons

In my town the town itself will give you 1 month notice, then fine you. The fines increase as you ignore them.

We don't need no stinkin' home owners association, we've got a Neo-Socialist local government!
