Talk V6 Ford Powerstroke Diesel

I'm eagerly awaiting a powerstroke V6 diesel. International & Ford Have built a pretty good diesel with the powerstroke V8, and I hope they do the same with the V6. The V6 will be put into a ranger, explorer, etc. I would be curious if I could fit one of the little suckers into this 1959 edsel villager station wagon I have. Someone hacked the car, and took out the 361 4 BBL V8, and the automatic transmission. It now has a 223 I6 (1 BBL) and a manual trans. I think a diesel would be cool. Drop a C6 trans into it, and have a sweet ride!! Would be unique also. I think the powerstroke V6 would be good. The john deere 4 cylinder diesels I have heard a little heavy, and require alot of suspension beefing up. I'm not really sure about the 4 cylinder cummins diesels, but do know that they are popular to put into a international scout/scout II.

Chevrolet just can't build a good diesel It's too bad, because some of their trucks look cool. I'm a ford boy though, so I would go towards the ford first. I have heard of alot of problems with the duramax diesel. Chevy's first diesel was a very overbored 350, and they still suck real bad. Fuel system rust (crappy water seperation) and so on.

Would anyone consider a radical conversion like this? Maybe you have a old car sitting around, and would like to try something like this? I think it would be a cool custom, and give alot of torque/power to my 59 edsel land yacht!!!

Sounds GREAT if you have an unlimited budget---a Chevy 350 (gasoline) would be a much more easy conversion---you bein a Ford guy im sure thats outta the question...

I subscribe to putting a ford into a ford, chevy into chevy, etc. I would put a 302 into the car if I wanted to. nothing against chevy's, just doesn't make much sense to me. I had heard the ford 9" rear ends are good, and might use those in something like a chevy if I got one, but I really don't know the chevy equivalent.

The '59 Edsel had such a beefy undercarriage that it will handle almost any engine you can fit under the hood. But parts to re-build the suspension will be pretty scarce.

IMHO, diesels ar good if you have the power on, or at idle. For cruising, they're kinda rough & tumble, if you know what I mean.

I'd think about a Ford/Merc 390, as they are common as dirt & unbreakable.

I've had bad experiences with Diesel engines, I know the advantage, but it seems lot of work, 2 batteries and whatnot.

Thats just IMO =)

golden -sorry that you had so much trouble - my experience - 5 deisels - 1.5 million km - average 45 to 50 mpg - 100 mph cruising

oh - don't nail it so hard as the engine gets near the end of its life - It can suck crankcase oil and blow the engine.

I've run turbo and non - prefer turbo
