Business license(s)??

Ive been selling comps and doing some comp work "on the side" for about 6 months and I am ready to go ahead and get a license....now today I hear that I have to have 2 licenses...1 for "retail" and 1 for "service".

Does this mean I have to have two businesses and keep two sets of records?? It cant possibly mean all that can it?

You would think the govt would want to make it easier for peeps to step out into a small business.

It may have something to do with sales tax. In Cal there is no sales tax on service(s). You will have to set up your accounting to track the tax vs. non-tax aspects of the business. As far as I know you won't necessarily have "two" businesses.

About two weeks after buying my own business and discovering all the BS and all the proverbial "hoops" I had to jump through in order to please the Gov. I became a Republican.

Maybe it depends on your state.

I have one for "Sales and Use", though I had to get it for city, county, and state.

Check out your states small business association. They had all the forms on mine, and I just went to the city and county offices the same day. The city and county charged me $20/ea.
