FBI acted recklessly on false information

This article is for all the people who think that security is more important than their privacy. As bad a child porn is, I would rather innocent people be protected from these overzealous cops, than to find out someone who is innocent was prosecuted for something they didnt do.

Quote:

U.S. District Court judges throw out warrants used in the FBI's much-vaunted Candyman case, saying that an agent misled magistrates to obtain the right to search homes.

leading her to overturn a previous decision and throw out the evidence the government gained from the search.
And if they were innocent, why was there any evidence?

Uhhh, forest, trees, etc.

Obviously not all of them were innocent. Not to mention that wasn't really the point of the article.

It's a sick, sad world when stuff like this even has to begin to happen in the first place. Well, I guess that means it's a sick, sad world.

I think the point here is that if fbi threw lies in their papers to get search warrants, what's to stop them from throwing lies on other papers too.
Thus, endangering the privacy of people.
Not whether the candyman ring was illegal or not (clearly it was).

This is one of those times when you're like "Dude, that's against the law. But I can understand it. But it was still against the law. But I'm on their side. But it was still against the law." Makes you wonder why people do some of the things they do.

The real travesty is that the FBI felt like they had to act quickly and lie to get the search warrants to nab a few criminals. If they had waited and collected the proper evidence, a bunch of real criminals wouldn't have the chance of going free, and innocent people wouldn't have been charged with something as serious as CP, probably ruining any sort of social life they had previously.

This is the kind of crap that wastes our tax dollars if you ask me. Not that anyone did.

Were innocent people charged? We'll never know since the evidence was thrown out.

What muno said.

I agree the crime is repugnant. While some were(obviously) guilty, many are not.

The things I got hung up on was:

"the agency misled magistrates to obtain the right to search homes"

"Despite the fact that the FBI agent who had conducted the investigation had been given a choice of whether to receive all e-mail, a daily digest or no e-mail, the agent maintained in several court statements that he had been given no choice"

"agents acted recklessly in submitting an affidavit that contained the false information "

"In reality, Yahoo, which had hosted the group until the service shut it down for illegal conduct, presented logs showing that only 413 members of a total of 3,213 members had opted to receive all e-mails."

Many on the list were INNOCENT!

Centurion, Movie crimes usually dont have much basis in real life. The officer looking in the trunk without probable cause and againt the persons permission is illegal here in the USA, AND APPARENTLY ALSO IN CANADA!

btw SURREAL, the evidence was made up by the FBI, FAKE, UNTRUE STATEMENTS.

The innocents I refer to are the people who opted out but were deliberately included in the FALSE FBI STATEMENTS.

Judges stop them. The fact that the evidence was thrown out indicates the system works. And the system, in this case, may allow both law-abiding citizens and child-p0rn purveyors to go free.
