What sites do you use to find the best airfaires?
Chicago to San Deigo in July.

you can check out expedia.com or travelocity.com.

I like expedia better though.

Orbitz isn't bad either.

Don't neglect the airline's website. Sometimes the best deals are there. Especially with Southwest.

EDIT: Not bad. Orbitz lists several dates (I just picked randomly) with round-trip tickets running between $176 and $196. Your specific dates of travel may change that, though.

If you're more lenient on when to actually fly you can try out www.hotwire.com or www.priceline.com

Be careful with Priceline. If I'm not mistaken, you have to take what they give you even if it means five stops over two days.

Be careful about trips that require a change of plane. I've found twice now (actually, Marcia did the finding) that we've had schedules that were too tight for us to make the connecting flight if even the slightest delay was involved. These sites need a better algorithm for that; at least they shoud flag it as a potential problem.

I've used Orbitz and Travelocity, both with good results. In fact, I usually check the schedule and prices on Orbitz before calling our travel department to schedule business travel.

Right now, a lot of airlines are being much more flexible with schedule changes with non-refundable tickets. They will allow changes to same-price flights with no penalties.
