The US protested vehemently when the Taliban blew up the ancient rock carvings of Buddha a few years ago. But today they not only stood by while priceless and irreplaceable artifacts were stolen from the Iraqi National Museum, they actually reopened two bridges, thereby making it possible for hordes of looters to get there.

What a shame. Oh well, at least the oil fields are safe, eh? I guess nothing else matters.

Yes the goverment has stolen off the people and generally been nasty but, well, never-mind. I guess looting a museum is one thing but to destroy a hospital is another.

You're missing the point entirely. The total lack of concern for looting is setting the recovery of Iraqi back by years. Innocent people are dying in hospitals needlessly because the equipment has been looted. Few Iraqis are benefitting in the short-term, while millions will suffer in the long-term. The loss of these artifacts is a loss for the world, just as was the destruction of the Buddha carvings. And the destruction of Iraq's infrastructure is not helping our cause and will breed even more hatred. The military had it within their power to prevent looting at key facilities, and they did nothing. Unconscionable.

And you can damn well be sure there's no looting going on at the oil fields.
