Hellooo everybody!

...It's that time of year... I was wondering if anyone else here is into planting stuff... Anyone do tomatoes and peppers and other vegies? What about flowers.... Any favorite flowers? What new plant did you try this year? How bout fruit trees and berries? (It'd be nice if you could mention what zone ur in - I live in zone 8B)

I have about a dozen blueberry bushes that were producing less and less till I paid this tree guy lotsa money to trim em up. They get a little more sun, berries look good and should be ready after the first of June...

The eating and cooking pear trees look ok, they are in the same sun striving position. Tempting to take em down, and use the wood for smoking meat in the smoker, but the dogs enjoy em too much....

I've gots so much going on outside, I'd be glad to tell y'all about it... maybe I outta start a blob.....

Hi Surreal...

here's the zone map link...

http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html

it's good to know what zone you live in especially if you mail order any plants...

some plants can't take the heat and humidity down here in the south....or they are treated as an annual...

annual plant - grows 1 season, or 1 year. usually good for color.
plants bloom their hearts out, make seed then die.

perennial - can live for many years, will bloom for a period of time every year. Can get some unusual plants as perennials.

biennial - grows 1st year, blooms then dies 2nd year....

good herbs to grow are parsley - if you grow parsley from seed be prepared to wait a while because it takes a few weeks to germinate. Legend has it ur suppose to swear when sowing parsley. By growing em from seed, you can get lots and lots to use in cooking and also a good border plant.

italian/flat leaved parsley - more flavorful, good to chop fine and put in foods

curley parsley - used mainly as a garnish. has some flavor but not as much as flat.

...more later.... (just wait till I get to my favorite....rosemary and peppers...)

Boy it's been so long since I've lived in this climate.
I'm really looking forward to getting some things planted, but it's going to be tough dealing with it dying once a year!

Planting Basil is a must tho
