Touched by a mod (a personal experience)

We all know the air's been slightly more tense around here lately. Seems understandable with all the events that are going on in the world. However a couple weeks ago I noticed myself getting a little too riled up over some of these issues. So instead of letting my emotions escalate I decided to take break from TechIMO for a short time. Just a breather for a few days to get my emotions in check. Well it wasn't too long into that break when I get a PM from one of our mods. I won't quote his message exactly (just because I haven't bothered to get his ok) but it was a message he sent to a few members that, like myself, weren't coming around as often as usual. He was concerned and wanted to know the reasons why we weren't there. Here's the first part of my reply to him:

Quote:
Well, first of all Dave, one point that I'd like to make VERY clear is; just the fact you sent me (and others) this message is most thoroughly impressive. And even more so if you're doing this on your own. I think it shows genuine concern for the forum here. And not just for the forum itself, but for the "community" or the atmosphere around here. Don't let anyone, including me, EVER tell you that you don't care about this place Dave.
And even though the message came from Daveleau I don't think he's alone in his concern for our community. All the mods are just as interested in how things are around here. Having said that, we should also realize that they are just people too. And for anyone that may not know, let's just say I've done my share of butting heads with a few of them, both here and back at Sysopt. Some of those disagreements got rather heated and I'm sure I was on the razor's edge of being banned on a few occasions. But I found as long as you tactfully explain your side of the situation AND realize that no matter what your view is you DO need to respect the rules, then there's no reason for anyone to get banned.

Another part of my replay to Dave that I think is pertinent here:

Quote:
And please don't even consider that maybe me and any others wouldn't need this break if there was a "tighter" control on the "bickering" and high emotions in the community. This is all perfectly natural. Our country (and much of the world) is struggling through a trying time right now. I think everything will work itself out in the end.
So I don't know if I really have any point here. I just wanted to relate one on my most recent experiences with a mod and how I was impressed. I think for the most part all of them do a great job around and really get no benefits to speak of in repayment.

So any of this "mob mentality" around here to go against the mods is going to be met with some fierce resistance, from me and I'm sure a number of other members. But even if were just me, that's a lot of resistance. So I suggest you all just settle down now. Anyone that's been banned and then request that their ban be lifted, it will most certainly be considered. That I'm sure of. There is absolutely NO ONE in the TechIMO staff/admin that is unreasonable. And anyone that has been banned and doesn't request to be let back in…[shrug].

Yes, OuT he has also talked to me as well. I won't say what he said, but let's just say that he is concerned and wants to see things straightened out.

(Besides Ken, the only mod that sent me a PM discussing what's going on)
Appreciate it guys!

I've been "modded" once or twice before.
But nobody ever used the "B" word at me.

That's because Penguins are so cute.

If you guys had cute avatars, you'd never have to worry about it.

Some of those avatars could scare off large farm animals.

Yes, the mods here are awesome.

Tough job they have had in the last few weeks. I'm not real envious of some of the decisions they've had to make. Not a pleasant thing sometimes, I'm sure. They all seem like very nice people to me. I've had PM's from several of them. Only once for getting a little out of line though (btw - the mod was right then too).

Also,
I agree with caddmannq -- some of the avatars are scary! lol

Thanks. The rest of the staff has the same sentiments and cares deeply for the members and the forum. I just happened to have a little extra time on my hands.
