Y'all better stay away from Oakland
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,83441,00.html
"Oakland police are being the most aggressive of any department I've seen in the Bay area since the war began," said protester Damien McAnany, a database manager. "The San Francisco Police Department never used any of this stuff against us."
I spent many a day protesting the Viet Nam war, but these guys are just asking for it. But blocking supplies for our troops is going as bit too far. Reckon the cops in Oakland who might probably have kin over there decided to put their foot down. I just feel for my union brothers Long Shoremen who got caught in the middle.

The protesters are also armed with tire irons and clubs. They aren't protestors, they are thugs. Oakland is a little more conservative than San Francisco and I hope the cops split a few skulls. What we have here is are groups of professional anarchists out to do no one any good. They are lot like the English hooligans of soccer matches in England. Ordinary protestors don't go to confrontational protests like this, unless they are crazy. Let them spend a night or two with "Bubba".

i totally agree. when pictures are shown of people "wounded" from bean bags and rubber bullets I say o well. they should be in there home, caring for their family, and making phone calls. 2000 calls to a state rep speaks louder than you strutting around on the warf blocking streets. if all those protesters put their minds to it, congress would know all about their complaints. as of now, their just a nuisance.

Yeah, I'm about 20-30 mins south on 880. IMO, they got it coming, I would see/think differently if they had protested peacefully and not had blocked traffic and weren't on private property.

I am about an hour and a half away..
IMO I believe they should be arrested.. These "non-lethal" devices don't feel good.
Heard on local news that the power of a bean bag has the punch of a professional boxer?

If the protestors are violent, I think the police should meet with overwhelming force to subdue the criminals as they would any criminal. If it is a peaceful demonstration, nothing should be done at all. I think the police in the 70's (from what I have seen after the fact) acted poorly and did not do enough to subdue the violent protests and buidling burnings.

It's one of those fine lines.. Who decides when these protestors crossed the line? By blocking streets were they disrupting the public and need to be arrested? Or have pepper spray shot in their faces. (Pepper spray burns very badly.)
Just another touchy subject. |
