Good news...
Got back from the hospital couple hours ago, doctor said it wasn't carpel tunnel, wasn't even tendinitis (sp.) he just said they were muscle cramps.
He did the thing where I heat up my wrist and he puts some needles into me that shock me a little bit to see how my muscles look, he said they are fine. Just wear the brace from time to time and make sure i'm using good ergonomics!
(This is of course a real big sigh of relief for me! )

Doctor told me that he's been in the practice for around 15 years, and he said I was the only kid ever to go to him knowing about carpal tunnel, and asking about carpal tunnel..hehe

Carpal tunnel is a condition where you tend to lose grasp of things that are in your hands, like if you're carrying a coffee cup and you'll just drop it because your hand gives out. I believe it also causes pain in the wrists.
Typically caused by poor ergonomics in work conditions, and most often seen from people who use computers a lot.
If you'll notice you probably have your wrist bent at an angle to hold your mouse, or your wrists bent outward to hold your fingers in the general flat keyboard. This for long periods of time can cause a degeneration of the muscles in your wrists. Generally only way to help it is for a surgery, and even then maybe.
This is why for the past 10 years or so (maybe less) there has been a strong push for ergonomics in the workplace, "natural" keyboards so your wrists aren't bent at wierd angles, or pads for the front of the keyboard so again your wrists arent' bent upwards.
Also making sure your monitor is at a decent level so your head isn't constantly tilted down, or up but your eyes level with the keyboard. My current work conditions is about as bad as you can get lol. It wasn't bad pre-crash but after that jack a$$ parked his place a little too close too the building (inside it) we got moved around, and are in a makeshift table now working on a laptop. A laptop is pretty much worst case scenario for ergonomics. You have to look down at the screen, there is really no way for your wrists to sit a natural angle.
PHEW
I'm sure I'm about 95% wrong on most of this so if anybody has more concrete information feel free to share as this was all off the top of my head lol
(man I got a crimp in my neck LOL)
--- edit ----
*sigh* I wrote all that, and he wasn't really asking what it was, but making a comment about Mike knowing what it was LOL
Ah well, it was for posterity's sake lol |

No carpal tunnel Fantastic man! That is something to be glad about. Unfortunately I do know about it. permanent 5% right wrist a little less in the left. Enough of that.
General info the syndrome is caused by over-extension of the wrist. Also know as RSS (repetitive stress syndrome). Simple definition: keep your wrist/s at angles beyond what they were designed for or push them to extremes repetedly (short overstress 200-300 times a day). You are at risk!
What happens is that inside your wrist the radial nerve (controls the thumb and first two fingers) runs through a tunnel of bone, in turn it is held in place by ligaments running across the outside of the same tunnel. Stress the wrist too often the ligaments become inflamed and put pressure on the radial nerve. First symptoms are usually numbness and randomlly the fingers and thumb just "quit working" for a few seconds. Coffee in the floor! The next stage is usually when people realize they might have a problem. Ever grab dry ice? Or get a pan of boiling water slpashed on you? Enough said.
It has been identified for years. It unfortunately isn't restricted to on field of work. Poultry processing plants, machine shops, any hand intensify field of work. Including typing in all forms. are all common places to find the right conditions.
The reason that prople connect it with typing skills is that that is where the publicity really came to the public eye. Before that the emplyers involved were always able to pay/buy the way into some other for of excuse, and keep it "under the rug".
Sorry if this is too long and / or confusing. Just thought I'd through a little info out there.
If anybody has any questions I'll try to answer them if I can.
JD

Happy to hear your news, Mike
CTS is not any fun, as an ex-co-worker of mine had it and she was always in pain, wearing a brace and had to have surgeries which didn't seem to help her much.
