Going to Mexico??

Well family may go to San Diego next month and I have decided that I would want to cross into Mexico. Just to go eat a neat Mexican lunch with a drink or two.

Is it just like getting into Canada?
Take a birth certificate and ID? Or should I just go and get a new pass port?
I don't want to be stuck in Mexico.

*edit* hmm dad is re-thinking this little trip. Mum just looked up prices for Sea World and the Zoo..
Almost $50 for a trip to Sea World! Are they kidding me?!?!

I don't think you'll be able to get a new passport in a month unless you pay the fee to expedite the process. (not sure how much it is)
Definately take a BC and soc sec card / drivers license.

Getting in from Mexico will be more difficult than coming in from canada I would imagine with so many people "hitching a ride" from mexico

Dont drink the water

Last time I went the only thing asked was ---"Are you a citizen of the United States?" give the proper answer and youre on your way home---things may have changed given the present world situation---a valid major ID should be all thats needed...

Well my uncle said when he was in Cancun they didn't even ask Americans if they wanted water with Dinner.
Vass: I will be going during mid-May. Leaving the 16th or something like that, I think that's enough time..

What are you supposed to drink when you're in Mexico?

lol... You "hope"?! I wouldn't even take that risk. You're not getting a simple bacterial thing from the water... you're getting hepatitis.

When I would go to Mexico with my uncle we NEVER drove his car across the border. He lived in Tuscon and would go across fairly regularly at Nogales to buy penicillin, liquor, etc. He said if you took it across you might not get it back across to the US. We would park on the US side and walk across.

When I went on a cruise over Christmas to Cozumel and we went into the country we drank bottled water or canned pop.

Yup, bottled water is readily available just about everywhere.
Do not for get about the fact that even if you do drink soda, remember that the ice is still made from the water. That is speaking about if you order one with dinner. I have been told that the hotels have some kind of filtering system for the potable water, but I ain't gonna chance it..
